Material Characterization

EDI's rheology lab is available to characterize the viscosity of your resins for purposes of designing the internal flow channels of EDI built extrusion equipment. An extruder is utilized to emulate the customer's processing conditions. Resin blends which may include multiple resins, regrind, additives, and colorants, will be fully mixed prior to taking viscosity measurements. A resin sample is extruded through a small capillary die, where measurement of pressure, flow rate, and the capillary dies' geometry are used to determine the sample's viscosity. The calculated viscosity over the shear rate range of 10 - 1000 1/s is utilized in optimizing the internal flow channels through computer simulation.
