Field Service Technician

Department: 60 - Sales
FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Customer Service Manager
Amount of Travel Required: 50-60%

Position Summary

The main function is to support the Sales and Marketing effort through customer service and support. This position is important to the company because it provides service to the customer that will enable them to begin or continue their operation. These efforts include service in the form of start-up assistance, maintenance and consultative services.

Essential Functions

  • Provide on-site technical support for customers to promote EDI technology. Support could be in the form of start-up service, maintenance or general technical counseling.
  • Technicians must perform a detailed review of the project prior to departure from EDI. This means that the technician is to pull the drawings for each piece of equipment and study the function of each component. If the technician does not understand the function of the piece of equipment then they need to review it with the engineering or technology department.
  • The technician is responsible for preparing their tool box with the correct set of tools and items they are responsible for taking to the customer site.
  • At customer site, technician will replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
  • At customer site, technician will assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
  • At customer site, technician will move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Coordinate and schedule calls required at the customer's facility in order to accommodate the customers requirements.
  • Summarize on a timely basis within one week of the visit the issues that were covered at the customer's facility in the form of a written service report. By doing so, this insures documentation for future reference and provide guidance for our engineering department to provide corrective action where required.
  • Provide support in manufacturing (rework disassembly, assembly, polishing, inspection, etc.) or the lab. This support will be determined on an as needed basis each week that technicians are in the office.
  • Provide technical support when telephone calls are received from customers while in the office. Support would include providing written instructions, verbal instructions or any communicationneeded to answer the customers. Consult with design and manufacturing as necessary.
